DAWN celebrates second framework win with £7.5million NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde mental health pr
30 September 2009
Dawn Construction, has been selected to deliver a £7.5million Mental Health Partnerships scheme for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Following its recent appointment to deliver the North Ayrshire Community Hospital for NHS Ayrshire and Arran, Dawn Construction, as part of the RD Health consortium, has now been appointed as Principal Supply Chain Partner for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s mental health project, through the NHS Frameworks Scotland scheme.
The project is part of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s strategy to restructure its services in the South Clyde area, modernising its services to provide a high quality of care designed to meet patients’ needs.
The work will involve a major redesign and development of mental health services including plans to increase beds and support accommodation facilities in Dykebar Hospital, Inverclyde Short Stay Psychiatric Unit and Leverndale Hospital.
Plans currently under discussion include the proposed refurbishment of the Acute Admissions Ward and forensic ward at Dykebar, the extension and upgrading of the Inverclyde Inverclyde Short Stay Psychiatric Unit and a new facility to be built at Leverndale to accommodate increased bed numbers and support services.
The NHS Frameworks Scotland scheme was introduced to create a flexible partnering approach to the procurement of publicly-funded construction work, to build or refurbish healthcare facilities across all of Scotland’s NHS Health Boards over the next four years.
The RD Health consortium, a joint venture between Dawn Construction and the Robertson Group, was formed exclusively to work in partnership with the NHS through the Frameworks Scotland process and has extensive expertise in the design, construction and maintenance of similar developments throughout the healthcare sector.
As well as the new North Ayrshire Community Hospital procured through the NHS Frameworks Scotland process, Dawn has recently been appointed to deliver a Primary Care Centre in Musselburgh, which follows the official opening of the purpose-built Ayrshire Maternity Unit in Kilmarnock.
With work also nearing completion at the Shawfair Hospital in Edinburgh, Dawn has worked to cement its position as a leader in the delivery of small to large-scale projects in the healthcare sector in Scotland.
Eric Fleming, surveying director of Dawn Construction, said: “The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde project is the second major award for Dawn through the NHS Frameworks Scotland initiative, and follows on from the award of the North Ayrshire Community Hospital contract. We are again delighted to be working closely with Robertson to further strengthen our links with the NHS in Scotland and secure future opportunities within the scheme.”
Alan Caldwell, framework manager of RD Health, added: “Frameworks Scotland has been set up to optimise the procurement process for NHS developments across the Scottish healthcare system.
“By harnessing the joint expertise of industry leaders such as Dawn and Robertson, the NHS can achieve faster delivery times, better design, cost-efficiency and sustainability, which will ultimately benefit patients in communities across Scotland for years to come.”
