DAWN CONSTRUCTION PREFERRED BIDDER ON £60M SCHOOLS CONTRACT

Dawn Construction has been named as the preferred bidder on the £60m construction contract for two new secondary schools at Armadale Academy and Deans Community School, Livingston.

The contract – as part of HDM Schools Solutions Ltd, a consortium comprising Dawn Construction, Hochtief PPP Solutions and Pacific Partners LLP - adds to Dawn’s growing portfolio and profile in the PPP/PFI market.

Dawn will also secure the contract to provide the facilities management for each school.

Other PPP/PFI projects the company is completing include building at Greenwood Academy and Stanley Primary in North Ayrshire and it recently finished the new Crosshouse Maternity Unit in Kilmarnock. Dawn is also on the bidder’s list for the forthcoming Inverclyde Schools PPP/PFI projects.

Dawn’s Facilities Management division currently has contracts at Crosshouse Maternity Unit, James Watt College in Kilwinning, Larkfield Hospital in Greenock, and Castle Hill Centre in Bolton and the award of the West Lothian Schools contract will enhance their standing in the PFI sector.

As part of the West Lothian Schools project Armadale Academy and Deans Community High School will be demolished and replaced with modern, state of the art buildings, enhanced by a wide range of new facilities including additional classrooms, games hall, dance studios, fitness rooms, swimming pools, full size all-weather synthetic pitches with outdoor changing facilities customised to meet the needs of local communities.

Work on the two schools is expected to commence in Summer 2007 with the new build construction works completed by August 2009.
