DAWN GROUP NOMINATED AS PREFERRED DEVELOPER AT FORMER BELLGROVE MEAT MARKET SITE.

Dawn Group have been nominated as preferred developer for the 14 acre former Bellgrove Meat market site in Glasgow ‘s east end. Dawn’s proposals for the regeneration of the site beat off strong competition from over 70 other interested parties.

In winning this Glasgow City Council/Scottish Government design competition, Dawn drew upon the experience of some of Scotland’s leading young architects and designers. This collaborative and innovative approach clearly won favour with the judging panel.

At the heart of the proposals is a sustainable development of 600 new homes, which will be designed to achieve the highest environmental standards, and also include home zones to provide safe areas for pedestrians and children. In addition, Dawn have proposed a supermarket as a sustainable way of reusing the listed former market sheds.

The site benefits from excellent public transport links, including Bellgrove Station, the plans provide a large public square that will link the station with the rest of the development

Dawn’s involvement in the adjacent Collegelands project provides scope for the two sites to be linked and this will improve connectivity between the east end and the city centre.

Detailed design will commence immediately with a view to submitting planning applications during 2008
