Sustainable Home Launched At Scottish College
2 June 2009
A new prototype home which aims to show how sustainable design can lead the way in providing low carbon affordable housing was launched yesterday at South Lanarkshire College, The Herald reports.
The Aurora, which is intended to be the first affordable eco-home for the mass market, was launched yesterday by Finance Secretary John Swinney, is set to be completed on the college campus by September.
The project is the result of a private-public partnership between the college, Dawn Homes and over 20 private sector partners, bringing a wide range of construction and energy efficiency expertise.
Heat recovery systems, insulation, and pumps which draw thermal energy from the earth beneath the house will eliminate the need for gas central heating, reducing homeowners bills and dependence on fossil fuels.
