Sainsbury's Coming to Prestwick

In conjunction with Sainsburys, Dawn Developments have submitted a planning application for a new supermarket and petrol filling station at Ayr Road, Prestwick. The location for this supermarket will be on the former Centrum site which used to be home to the ice hockey team, Ayr Scottish Eagles. The proposed store will incorporate a 45,000sqft sales area and a customer café and will provide a much needed quality food store within Prestwick, something that has been lacking for a considerable period of time. In addition the scheme will provide up to 250 employment opportunities with a mix of full and part time staff positions. Subject to statutory approvals, works will commence early 2009.

Sainsburys development surveyor commented "The former Centrum Centre on Ayr Road is an ideal site that will provide competition and choice for local residents. We are very keen to invest in Prestwick and bring our offers to local shoppers. We look forward to working with the local community and South Ayrshire to realise our plans.
